During this 90-minute Q&A, John will talk about his latest non-fiction book Trip to the Moon – the follow-up to his bestselling writing guide Into the Woods – his approach to storytelling, and other insights into the writing process.
Into the Woods was a groundbreaking publication that revolutionised writers’ understanding of story structure and continues to be a hugely influential text for screenwriters and novelists alike – including many CBC tutors and students. John’s five-act structure is a brilliant tool for understanding what underpins narrative. His latest book Trip to the Moon takes us on a journey not just through drama and fiction but through politics, religion and non-western narrative. Through these terrains, he seeks out the role of story in all our lives, examining how to utilise its lessons to create life-changing tales – and, in a world aflame with conspiracy theories, to guard ourselves against their darker purpose too.
All ticket-holders will be invited to submit a question for John ahead of time. The most interesting and frequently asked questions will be curated and put forward to John by CBC host Lyndsey Ng. This event will be ‘webinar style’ with John and Lyndsey appearing live on-screen, attendees will not appear on the screen however they will be able to post comments in a chat box.
